SESSION 4 - HOW SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS CAN SHAPE SMART CITIES

In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, the new Agenda emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all.
These accelerated learning workshops will focus on 4 different SDGs in-line with the Smart Cities agenda. They will provide learning and support for those working to develop a smart strategy in their city or town.

Workshop Title: Enabling digital engagement in rural UK
This workshop will explore how Cities and Towns can implement digital infrastructure to enable greater connectivity within rural areas for citizens and businesses.

Workshop Title: Energy Efficiency for Housing
Greenwhich will discuss their EU project which aims to tackle energy efficiency across social housing within the Borough. In this session Alan and his team will showcase how the project can be replicated in your region.

Workshop Title: Transport Innovation Workshop - What are the most pressing issues facing Local Authorities?
A new report by the Urban Transport Group, ‘About towns: How transport can help towns thrive’, has revealed how transport can address many of the challenges that the UK’s post-industrial towns can face, such as unemployment, under investment and a lack of housing. The report states that transport helps to solve these challenges by creating jobs, attracting investment and opening up sites for homes.
This workshop will explore these current transport challenges and possible solutions faced by City & Town leaders including how transport solutions can aid social and economic growth. Delegates will leave with understanding of how to tackle one of the most common barriers to smart city progress, transport.
